Painting Tips and Tricks

Prepare the Walls
First and foremost, check if there are any cracks on the wall. If there exist any, then do fill them before you start painting. In short, prepare the wall of the rooms for painting. Make sure that they are clean and free of scratches so that the paint can be applied evenly to the walls. Read more on house painting preparation.

Collect the Materials
Before you start with painting, assemble the materials required for the same. You will require materials like brushes, cloth, painting colors, etc. Selection of the right material also plays an important role in interior painting. Brush is a pivotal element when painting is considered. Hence, take care that you select the right brush. Cloth is mainly required for wiping off the paint which spills in unwanted areas and for covering the furniture in the room. Instead of using any other kind of cloth, you can make use of a canvas drop cloth.

Select the Colors
The next crucial step involves the selection of color. Various factors should be considered while selecting the color. They include, people in the house, the amount of light received by the room, etc. If you are painting a girl's room, you can choose shades of pink. But that's not the case with a guy's room. Here, the best suited color is none other than blue. After you choose a particular color, paint the corner of the room with it and check if the color gels well with the home decor.

Apply the Primer
Applying the primer is the key for giving a neat look to the walls. It is recommended to apply a coat of primer before you paint the walls. Apart from giving a groovy appearance to the wall, primer helps in hiding the stains present on it and also adds to the life of the paint. Applying a primer is not essential in interior painting but, it is a must in exterior painting as the exterior walls are more prone to cracks and stains.
Start Painting
Now, after the pre-requisites of painting are accomplished, you can start with the actual task of interior painting. Before you start with painting, wipe and clean the brushes well so that the unwanted materials like dust will be cleaned off. Two to three coats of the paint are enough to give the walls the desired color. But, if you want a darker shade, it is essential to apply more coats. While applying the paint, it is better if the strokes of the brush move up and down rather than the other way round as, it is easier to apply this way and is also recommended by many painting experts. If you apply a stroke in this direction, then the other strokes should also be applied in the same direction to give the surface even look. You can adorn the walls by making use of different interior paint colors and combinations instead of using a single color. This will give a different, yet appealing look to the walls.
